OUT NOW - Voices of Opportunity

My first publication, ‘Voices of Opportunity: Oracy for Social Mobility in Education’ is a contemporary study of the vital role language has in shaping the life chances of children from contrasting ends of the social ladder.

Grounded in the latest research and the contemporary experiences of educators, it highlights how oracy is a key driver of upward social mobility, especially for the most disadvantaged children.

Really valuable book on oracy -full of insight, research and practical advice to apply in the classroom. Recommend highly!

This book has an excellent take on oracy. It gives a really clear introduction firstly to oracy and then to social mobility, (I’ve done a lot orf reading on oracy and it still gave me lots of new things to think about!) ... As a secondary teacher, I found it really helpful to get the bigger picture of where students are at with oracy. I also really liked how and the explanations throughout were evidence based but also rooted in what happens in real schools.

A must-read for those starting their oracy journey, incredibly useful for oracy leads, and a great resource for teacher training. This is a book I’ll be returning to—particularly for the quotes and data to support ongoing oracy work in my school. Thoroughly recommend.
